About Juniata County

Juniata County is centrally located in the heart of Pennsylvania, along Route 22/322, forty miles west of Harrisburg and forty miles east of State College. Juniata takes its name from the river flowing through the county.

Juniata County has a rich history. Its early residents were Native Americans of the Algonquin tribes. By 1764, permanent settlements were established by Scotch/ Irish settlers soon followed by Germans.

The population is approximately 21,000 and Mifflintown is the county seat. The rural setting, small villages and towns, mountains, abundant natural beauty and wildlife are part of the County's charm.

Juniata, a county for all seasons, is a retreat for residents and visitors who enjoy it's scenic splendor and atmosphere.
